“Bigyan Memorial Research Award” and “Raju Memorial Youth Award” Awarded

In memory of Late Bigyan Acharya, environmentalist and a member of ENPHO, and in memory of Late Raju Shrestha, colleague of ENPHO and a youth activist in the sector of environment and science, ENPHO has established a “Bigyan Memorial Research Award” and “Raju Memorial Youth Award” respectively to be awarded to individual or organization remarkably working in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in Nepal.


This year too, the winners of the awards were announced during 26th Annual General Meeting of ENPHO on 16 September, 2017. Ms. Anu Radha Baral received the “Bigyan Memorial Research Award”, a student to Tribhuvan University, for her research on “Study on Utilization of Pine Needles for the Production of Fuel”. In absence of Ms. Baral, her husband Mr. Arjun Shrestha received the award with a grant of NRs. 25,000 and a certificate of appreciation on behalf of Ms. Baral. She will be sharing her research findings in ENPHO’s Learning and Sharing Friday session and her scientific article will be also published in ENPHO’s Journal of Environment and Public Health.


Similarly, Mr. Parmeshwor Jha received the “Raju Memorial Youth Award” for his contribution in WASH sector in Saptari where coverage of Sanitation elevated from 20% to 80% in 3 years and also for the continuation and effective WASH improvement during Terai Flood 2017 in Saptari. A campaign called “Sarsafai Aandolan” for 50 successful weeks led by Mr. Jha and Saptari Youth Group had been running in Sapatari for better sanitation of the district. Mr. Jha was awarded with grant of NRs. 10,000 and a certificate of appreciation.


The Chief Guest, Senior Environmentalist, Mr. Bhairab Risal and Chairperson of ENPHO, Ms. Urmila Joshi presented the “Bigyan Memorial Research Award” and “Raju Memorial Youth Award” to the winners.
