Global Handwashing Day 2017 celebration


To mark the Global Handwashing Day 2017, ENPHO with the support of UNICEF, in collaboration with Paschim Paaila organized event on 15 October, 2017, under “Cholera/AWD Preparedness in DRR Approach for Urban WASH” project. The event was started with “Mass Rally” program took off from Bhimsensthan, Mangalbazar of Lalitpur passing through Prayag Pokhari, Iti Tole, Gabahal and ended at Mangalbazar. The rally aimed to raise awareness on importance of handwashing for good health.


The rally was followed by formal Global Handwashing Day 2017 celebration program held at Sri Adarsha Kanya Niketan Secondary School, Managalbazar. The program was conducted under the chairmanship of Mr. Bipin Dangol, Executive Director of ENPHO. Mr. Narayan Lal Awale, Ward Chairperson of Ward no. 16 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) was resided as Chief Guest during the program. Likewise, Mr. Dilli Sher K.C., representative of LMC was resided as Special Guest, Mr. Ekaram Maharjan, Senior Artist, and Mr. Satya Narayan Maharjan, representative of Padma Resource Centre was resided as guests. During the program, result of inter-school art competition organized on 12 October, 2017 was also announced. Mr. Ajaya Rai of grade 9 from Sri Vishow Vidhya Secondary School was declared as the winner of the art competition. Likewise, Mr. Rohan Shrestha (grade 9, Blue Bird School), Mr. Shasen Shrestha (grade 9, Everest Secondary Boarding School), Ms. Guddi Patel (grade 9, Pragati Siksha Sadan Secondary School) placed 1st runner up, 2nd runner up, and 3rd runner up respectively. The winners of art competition were awarded with trophies, gifts and certificates by the Chief Guest. Altogether 217 students from 17 different schools participated the competition and best drawings were also showcased during the program.


Additionally, Paschim Paaila youth volunteers also performed 2 dances on ‘Sabun Man’ and ‘Tiharai Aayo’ popular Nepali songs to energize the event.
