Sihorwa VDC of Bara Declared as ODF


Sihorwa VDC of Bara district has been declared as an Open Defecation Free (ODF) zone amidst a ceremony organized under the joint coordination between District Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Coordination Committee (D-WASH-CC), VDC Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Coordination Committee (V-WASH-CC), Water Supply and Sanitation Division Office (WSSDO), UN-HABITAT, ENPHO and Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) on 9 April, 2017. Sihorwa VDC is the sixth VDC of the Bara district that ENPHO aided for the achievement of ODF through intensive WASH promotions.


The program was conducted under the chairmanship of VDC Secretary Mr. Sundar Prasad Niraula. Chief District Officer Mr. Bijaya Narayan Manandhar was the Chief Guest and Division Engineer of WSSDO Mr. Santosh Kumar Shrestha, S. P. Armed police force Mr. Narendra Uprety, D-WASH- CC focal person Mr. Gopilal Bhagat were the special guests during the event.


The program commenced with the formal declaration of VDC as an open defecation free. Mr. Bijaya Narayan Manandhar congratulated everyone for succeeding in declaring Sihorwa VDC as ODF. During the event, certificates of appreciation were distributed to various supporting organizations for their notable contribution in declaring ODF. Representatives from WSSDO, UN-HABITAT, W-WASH-CC, political parties, Nepal police, media, various organizations including local community were majority of the attendees.


ENPHO, with the support of UN-HABITAT and Nepal Red Cross Society-Bara District Chapter, has been conducting “Open Defecation free campaign at Bara District” project in four municipalities (Nijgadh, Kalaiya, Jeetpur-simara and Kolhabi) and five VDCs (Amlekh Ganj, Haraiya, Karaiya, Sihorwa, and Tetariya), since March 2014.
