Workshop on Implementation and Monitoring of Standard Septic Tank Construction in Mahalaxmi Municipality

The workshop on “Implementation and Monitoring of Standard Septic Tank Construction in Mahalaxmi Municipality” was conducted on 9 to 10 June 2023 at Hotel Himalaya Horizon, Dhulikhel for all ward officials and staff members of Mahalaxmi Municipality. The program’s goal was to introduce municipal and ward officials to the Integral Municipal Information System (IMIS), which is being created to help with effective planning, decision-making, service delivery, and real-time monitoring of Mahalaxmi Municipality’s sanitation services.

The two-day workshop program was initiated with the welcome remarks from Mr. Rajendra Shrestha, Program Director, ENPHO. He emphasized various initiatives that the municipality has been taking for the faecal sludge management sector in collaboration with ENPHO. He requested the participants to ensure standard septic tank construction in the municipality to assure the program objective and invited the municipal officers to follow the best practices for the building permit approval along with other sanitation initiatives for the overall management. A first day session was incorporated with the discussion on Fecal Sludge Management (FSM) and standard septic tank, introduction on IMIS and eBPS, a presentation on sanitation app and standard septic tank monitoring mechanism, eBPS field training, and sanitation app. The second day of the workshop accompanied by FSM Business Process through IMIS and preparation of action plan and group presentation.

Ms. Rosy Singh, Project Manager of ENPHO thanked Mahalaxmi Municipality and all the participants for their supportive collaboration, and the resource persons from Innovative Solutions Pvt. Ltd. for the achievements to establish the IMIS along with Sanitation App for the standard septic tank construction implementation and the monitoring required to ensure quality improvements. Ms. Singh wished the municipality to be an exemplary municipality to implement IMIS system and concluded with a note to implement and raise voices on the accomplishments made for the sanitation sector for its successful implementation at the municipality.

This will enable us to realize our goal of a safe and clean municipality, and all the attendees here today are accountable for ensuring that it is carried out successfully. Collectively, 40 municipal officials from different departments along with engineers and sub- engineers from municipality and wards of Mahalaxmi Municipality participated in the training sessions.
