Integrated WASH

ENPHO is promoting integrated water, sanitation and hygiene in communities, municipalities, small towns and schools for safe water, sustainable sanitation and personal hygiene. The approaches of Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for All (SWASTHA), Healthy Home declaration, Open Defecation Free (ODF) zone declaration, Behavior Change Campaign (BCC) and Model Healthy Community (MHC) campaign has been implemented as an integrated WASH approach contributing to improved access to safe drinking water, better nutrition and sanitation. In addition, Public Private Partnership (PPP) approach has been also used to ease the access of WASH materials in local market by creating smooth linkage between local suppliers, relevant stakeholder and local people. All the WASH program are conducted to support ongoing nationwide Total Sanitation Movement so as to contribute to meet the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of WASH targeted by the Nepal government.

To create CWIS/FSM platform and enhance capacities of relevant stakeholders to promote and implement CWIS/FSM at the municipal level, across South Asia and beyond.

Towards Achieving Resilient and Water Safe Urban Communities in Selected Areas of Kathmandu Valley

As per the Constitution of Nepal, access to safe drinking water is a basic human right. A “one-house – one water- tap” policy is being implemented to progressively realize universal access to safe drinking water by 2030, to meet the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets for drinking water. In response to increasing concerns over water quality, UNICEF aims to support some of the communities to achieve a Water Safe Community, a mechanism where communities and its government are capable to ensure that their water is safe for all inhabitants of the community all the time as per the global definition of safely managed water in communities. With the same aim, ENPHO in support of UNICEF is implementing the project “Towards Achieving Water Safe and Resilient Communities in selected areas of Kathmandu Valley” in Mahalaxmi and Godawari Municipality.

Integrated Urban Water Management at the Center of Municipal Public Services

It is essential to step towards sustainable management of water and sanitation services through integrated approaches incorporating various urban issues. Hence, Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) in the partnership with BORDA has implemented “Integrated Urban Water Management at the centre of municipal services” project in Godawari and Kritipur muncipalities. 

WASH SDG in Nepal

WASH SDG Nepal is a four years, comprehensive community focused project dedicated to meet the overall of “Sustainable and equitable use of WASH by all”.  The project aims to contribute to the government’s target on SDG goal of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.  With the support of WASH Alliance International (WAI), ENPHO in collaboration with WAI consortium partner organizations have completed the first phase of the project implementation from 1st July 2018 to 30th June 2020. Where, demand generation from the community and ensuring an enabling environment by local government and promoting female led WASH entrepreneurs are the major achievements. 

Reconstruction and Resilience of WASH Service through Capacity Building in Nepal

This project is being implemented by ENPHO with the support from GAC and CAWST to enhance the capacity of local organizations on technical aspect of WASH and message delivery so that community people can be influenced to improve or change their WASH behavior. The project is being undertaken in five earthquake affected districts namely Dolakha, Kavrepalanchwok, Sindhupalchwok, Nuwakot

Water Security and WASH Resilience

In order to contribute to achieve sustainable goal on water and sanitation by 2030, basic level WASH facilities need to be promoted to safely manage the situation with acquaintance of innovation along with capacity enhancement at local level. According to Department of Sanitation and Sewerage, 2016 the water supply has estimated to be 87% and sanitation coverage is 98.8% (DWSS, 2018). However, access to safe water and improved sanitation in Nepal is confronted by various challenges.

Suaahara II

Suaahara II is a five-year, comprehensive, community focused multi-sectoral nutrition program aiming to improve health and nutritional status of the people, particularly that of 1000 days women and their children. The program works under consortium approach in which ENPHO has been contributing to achieve Intermediate Result 1.2 -“Household Adopts Essential WASH Actions”.
