Empowering Entrepreneurs, Promoting Safe Water: Biosand Filter Marketing Training

Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO), with support from the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST), successfully conducted a two-day Training on Biosand Filter (BSF) Marketing for BSF Entrepreneurs on 12–13 August 2025. This training is part of ENPHO’s ongoing efforts to improve access to safe drinking water across Nepal and support the achievement of SDG 6.

Gearing Up Entrepreneurs for Safer Water Solutions

The training focused on expanding the reach of Biosand Filters and promoting the use of safe drinking water in communities across Nepal. A total of 24 BSF entrepreneurs from different provinces participated, enhancing their marketing knowledge and strategies to increase BSF uptake.
The sessions were conducted by the ENPHO team, including Mr. Hari Bahadur Budhathoki, BSF technical lead, and Mr. Mochan Bhattarai, a marketing specialist. Participants received hands-on guidance on resolving technical issues, creating effective marketing materials, and applying innovative approaches to promote BSFs.
In addition, the training featured virtual sessions by international experts Mr. Suneel Rajavaram, Senior Manager from CAWST presented the latest research findings on Biosand Filter, providing participants with updated technical knowledge to enhance their marketing approaches. Similarly, Mr. Lalit Mohan Sharma

from India (SM Sehegal Foundation) shared insights on the Matikalp Filter marketing strategy, highlighting lessons that could be adapted to the Nepalese context.

Entrepreneurs actively participated in the training, demonstrating strong commitment by developing marketing tools such as jingles, updated user education handbooks, and outreach resources to boost BSF adoption. They also shared the marketing tips and strategies they are currently using with one another.

Through this initiative, ENPHO continues to strengthen local capacity, empower entrepreneurs, and promote safe water solutions in communities across Nepal. The training underscores the importance of combining technical knowledge with marketing skills to achieve sustainable impact.
