Enhancing Knowledge and Skills for Effective WASH Training Delivery

Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO), with support from the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST) and in coordination with the District Coordination Committee (DDC) Hetauda, successfully organized the Master Training of Trainers (MToT) on Delivering Effective WASH Training (DEWT) from 18-22 August 2025 at Regal Hetauda Resort, Makwanpur District.

Participants actively engaged in group activities during the training session

The five-day training brought together 24 participants representing government organization such as Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City, along with development agencies and various local organizations.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Lalit Ghalan, Chief of DCC Makwanpur. Throughout the training, sessions focused on the qualities of an effective trainer, strategies to create safe learning environments, facilitation techniques, participatory methods, and ways to adapt lessons for effective training delivery. The program emphasized practical approaches to make WASH training more engaging, relevant, and impactful at the community level.

“As part of my role, I frequently conduct trainings for TLOs, government officials, and ward representatives. This event was very beneficial as it introduced participatory tools that are broadly applicable beyond WASH. I learned how to better engage participants, address barriers in training delivery, and reflect on my past practices to improve. I believe this kind of training is essential not only for me but also for other officials in the municipality since we are often responsible for conducting trainings.”
Chanda Khadka, Engineer, Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City

“The MToT on DEWT training was a valuable learning experience that strengthened both my knowledge and facilitation skills. I especially learned the importance of active listening, effective questioning, and using visual tools to make sessions engaging. This training built my confidence to simplify complex messages and engage participants in training sessions. I am committed to apply these skills so that future WASH trainings are not only informative but truly transformative in communities.”
Yogesh Ghalan, Public Health Officer, Bagmati Rural Municipality

“The training provided valuable skills and ideas on creating safe learning environments and effectively delivering WASH content in participatory methods. These skills will be useful not only in WASH training but also in broader sector like health education and community training sessions.”
Ashish Bhandari, Health Assistant, Kathmandu Metropolitan City
