Turning the Tide: Lapse Kotdanda Water Supply System Entrusted to User’s Committee

The Lapse Kotdanda Water Supply System, supplying to around 722 people, had fallen into disrepair, marked by a deteriorating reservoir tank and transmission pipeline, rendering it non-functional. Consequently, the community was forced to rely on unsafe and unprotected water sources for their essential drinking water needs. In response to this critical situation, ENPHO with the support of BORDA under the IUWM project initiated to establish a Community-Led, Self-Sustained Water Supply System for Lapse Kotdanda in Godawari Municipality, aiming to elevate water and sanitation services for the local communities.

Following the successful completion of all construction activities, the official transfer of the Water Supply System to the water user’s committee took place during the Closing Workshop of the IUWM project held on December 28, 2023, at Square Hotel, Pulchowk. This marked a significant shift in responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the system. Mr. Gajendra Maharjan, Mayor of Godawari Municipality, symbolically passed the torch to Mr. Bishnuman Maharjan, Chairperson of Ward No. 6. Subsequently, the baton of responsibility was handed over to Mr. Gyan Bahadur Tamang, Chairperson of Lapse Kotdanda Water Supply System.
