Design Training on Gravity Fed Rural Water Supply System using SW-WSP V3
ENPHO with the support of BORDA under Integrated Urban Water Management project and in coordination with Kirtipur Municipality and Godawari Municipality successfully organized five days technical training on ‘Gravity Fed Water Supply System using SW-WSP V3’ for the engineers and sub-engineers of Godawari Municipality and Kirtipur Municipality. The major objective of this training was to enhance knowledge and skills of the participants on designing and estimation of the gravity-fed water supply system and operate SW-WSP V3 (Computer Based Software) required to ease water supply project implementation.
The training was facilitated by Mr. Suman Hada from Softwel (P) Ltd. During the sessions, participants were briefed on mobile application, SW MAPS, where introduction to SW MAPS and DTM, setting up external GPS set up, recording WSP features, field survey, importing data and cleaning, water demand and RVT sizing, Pipe network design and estimation, Introduction to Loop network, pump design, sharing of 12 Volume, and outputs from SW-Maps were discussed. Additionally, ‘Geographic Information System’ (GIS) required for the proper allocation of any information and landmark necessary for the project or the water supply system were also discussed.
From downloading and installation of SW-WSP V3 application in the smartphone to using it for various purposes were thoroughly briefed during the training.
“After working as a water supply designer for more than 27 years, the technology that has been introduced during this training has been the most advanced and very fruitful one. If we would had known this earlier, many interventions would have been carried out with ease by using this mobile application. I found this training very effective for the design and estimation of gravity flow system. From surveying to designing, plotting schematic and flow diagram, and preparing detail estimate through same software is a good achievement in water supply. We are thankful to ENPHO and IUWM project for arranging this training.” remarked, Mr. Satya Narayan Lakhye, Senior Technical Engineer, Godawari Municipality
During the special remarks, Mr. Ramesh Maharjan, Mayor from Kirtipur Municipality requested for exchange of trained municipal technical officials among the municipalities for design estimates of the remaining system at Kirtipur. He also desired to conduct advance training ensuring urban water supply system as have been shared by the participants.
Mr. Gajendra Maharjan, Mayor, Godawari Municipality during his special remarks appreciated the fact that the training was more practical and technology friendly. He also requested the participants to utilize and share these skills and knowledge for water sources protection works at the respective municipalities.
Altogether, 14 individuals including 12 male and 2 female participants from Kirtipur Municipality, Godawari Municipality and ENPHO (technical team from IUWM project) actively participated during the training.
