Training on Operation and Maintenance of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System (DEWATS)

Under the Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) at the Centre of Municipal Public Service project, ENPHO with the support of BORDA, South Asia, and in coordination with Godawari and Kirtipur Municipalities organized training on ‘Operation and Maintenance of DEWATS’ from 14 to 16 December 2021 at Himalayan Drishya Resort, Dhulikhel Kavre. The training was organized for technical staff of Godawari and Kirtipur Municipality with an objective to enrich their knowledge and skills on operation and maintenance of DEWATS for regular operation and sustainability.


During the three days training, participants were briefed on DEWATS in detail and its importance at the municipal level. Along with this, the major components of DEWATS and major challenges during the operation of DEWATS were also highlighted during the training session. The sessions were followed by a Field Visit where participants had the opportunity to observe, contextualize and discuss the theoretical lesson learns practically.

                     
“People come up with various problems related to wastewater. Although being a government officer, I couldn’t provide them with proper solutions. After participation in this training, we have gained ideas on wastewater management and I am now confident that I can provide my inputs on municipal level wastewater management.” remarked, Mr. Pradipdhoj Karki, Sub-engineer, Godawari Municipality.
During the closing remarks, Ms. Archu Sharma, Sub-engineer, Godawari Municipality said, “DEWATS was the totally new term for me although I have heard about WASH. During the training, Field Visit has supported me to observe the DEWATS and contextualize it with the scenario of our municipality. As a staff, now, we are able to supervise and monitor the DEWATS of our municipality.”

Altogether, there were 12 participants who actively engaged themselves during the training which included 2 Female and 10 Male members.
