Celebration of World Environment Day 2022 at Schools of Bheriganga Municipality

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2022, ENPHO with the support of Wash Alliance International under the project WASH SDG Project, organized ‘Plantation and Cleaning Campaign’ at three different schools of Bheriganga Municipality, Surkhet. Marking the theme of this year: ‘Only One Earth’, various activities were conducted on 5th June 2022 at Shikhar Secondary School, Ramghat; Nepal Rastriya Secondary School, Lode and Bhawani Secondary School, Chiurigaira of Bheriganga Municipality. The main purpose of the celebration was to spread awareness about the importance of proper hygiene and sanitation practices for healthy living with sustainable and safe environment.

The activities aimed to engage school students themselves so that they can contribute to maintain sanitation and hygiene at the school premises which would further help in reducing different types of pollution in schools.

The activities included plantation where students planted trees in the school premises. Cleaning of classrooms with school premises were also carried out mobilizing child clubs of schools itself.

Under the WASH SDG project, schools have transformed a previously unused spaces at the school to waste and sanitary pad disposal pit. With this, sanitary pad disposal pits were constructed including cleaning of toilets.  After competition of dirty and smelly toilets short discussion amongst child club members was carried out to ensure regularity of cleaning the school toilet. 

Altogether, 70 child club members including teachers participated the event.
