Mobile Booth Campaign to raise the awareness on Fecal Sludge Management (FSM)

ENPHO under “Pilot Implementation of FSM Standard in Nepal-Mahalaxmi, Lalitpur as Pilot Municipality” project with the support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and in coordination with Mahalaxmi Municipality conducted a “Mobile Booth Campaign” to raise awareness on proper management of fecal sludge, septic tank, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by sanitation workers. The campaign was organized from 27th September to 5th October, 2021 and mobile booth were placed at 5 non-sewered wards of Mahalaxmi Municipality i.e. at Siddhipur, Ward 6; Changathali, Ward 7; Lubhu and Sankhadevi, Ward 8; Lamatar and Dhungin Buspark, Ward 9 and Lakuri and Fedikhola, Ward 10.

The first day of campaign was started by placing a booth at Siddhipur, Ward 6. The campaign was continued for 8 continuous days i.e. until 5 October, 2021. During the campaign, volunteers from Paschim Paaila counseled visitors about the importance of decentralization of the sanitation system and its importance to the environment and public health.

One of the locals from Siddhipur said, “Local people here have already built septic tank but not in a proper way. We were unaware about the reason behind septic tank leakage. This program helped me understand about the importance of proper septic tank and fecal sludge management.”

One of the students from Lubhu remarked, “I heard about the booth campaign from my neighbors. I was eager to visit the booth as we also have septic tank in our home. After coming here, I have enhanced my knowledge on proper use of septic tank and I will definitely share this with my parents.”

More than 210 community people were directly counseled on the importance of FSM and and proper use of septic tank.
