Strengthening Capacity of Technical Workforce of the Municipalities
Under the WASH SDG Programme, Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) and LUMANTI have jointly commenced a five-day residential training program on “Design of Gravity-Fed and Lifting Water Supply Systems and Sanitation Facilities” from September 26, 2021. The ongoing training will be running till September 30, 2021, at Samartha Bardiya Adventure Resort, Thakurdwara, Thakurbaba Municipality. With an aim to strengthen the technical skill of the technical staff from four municipalities (Bheriganga Municipality, Barahatal Rural Municipality, Kohalpur Municipality, and Baijnath Rural Municipality), which are also the project areas of the WASH SGD Programme. The training has been organized upon request from the municipalities.
From the training, participants will enhance knowledge on water supply systems in the rural contexts and its components, basic hydraulics, population forecast along with technical aspects such as designing guidelines, survey guidelines, RVT sizing, pipeline design, HGL plotting, BOQ preparation, Drawings of components and estimates, pump sizing and selection. The major focus of the training is also on water quality parameters, its treatment option and its association with safe sanitation and goals of the WASH SDG programme.
Altogether 15 participants have joined the training with 4 females and 11 males including the technical staff of the project from the organizations, ENPHO, LUMANTI and Geruwa Rural Awareness Association. Mr Punit Raj Shrestha, a water supply system engineer is leading the training in assistance from Santosh Dahal, an engineer from ENPHO. This training combines both theoretical and practical sessions on designing water supply systems with an aim to enhance the participants’ skills. In support of WASH Alliance International, ENPHO is implementing WASH SDG Programme in Bheriganga Municipality and Barahatal Rural Municipality, and LUMANTI is implementing the project at Kohalpur Municipality and Baijnath Rural Municipality.
