BODY BELT INCUBATOR

The Body Belt Incubator utilises body heat in order to maintain a relatively constant incubation condition (i.e.,>25 oC and <40 oC), regardless of ambient temperature. It is worn around the waist and was developed by ENPHO Laboratory as a substitute to electrical incubator in areas lacking electricity or where continuous access to electricity is not present.

Product Description

What is Body Belt Incubator?

The Body Belt Incubator utilises body heat in order to maintain a relatively constant incubation condition (i.e.,>25 oC and <40 oC), regardless of ambient temperature. It is worn around the waist and was developed by ENPHO Laboratory as a substitute to electrical incubator in areas lacking electricity or where continuous access to electricity is not present.

Why Body Belt Incubator?

During microbiological testing of environmental samples, in order to facilitate microbial growth, media plates are incubated using electric incubator so as to maintain constant temperature. However, in lack of access to electricity, ambient temperature conditions may be utilised for incubation purpose. In context of Nepal, with diverse topography and varying climatic conditions wherein different regions have different temperatures, the problem of inconsistency limits using ambient temperature condition for incubation. Moreover, in Nepal, when samples need to be tested in remote areas, there is a chance that sites may not have access to electricity for use of electrical incubator.

Hence, Body Belt Incubator has been designed in order to address this issue by using body heat instead of electricity to maintain incubation temperature. The study conducted by ENPHO on performance of the incubator on different climatic conditions (Himalayan, Hill and Terai region) showed that temperatures in incubator remained consistent at 33-35 oC regardless of ambient temperature when properly worn as per the instructions.

Key Features of Body Belt Incubator

  • Easy to handle
  • Reusable incubator for microbiological water quality analysis
  • Low cost
  • Portable

User’s Instructions

  • Wrap the Body belt incubator tightly around the waist area.

The product was introduced and branded in 2014 by ENPHO after continuous research. It was developed to serve as an alternative to electric incubators for the purpose of microbial incubation in those areas lacking electricity.
