What is Piyush Plus?

Piyush Plus is a 0.7% chlorine solution for disinfecting large volumes of drinking water usually stored in buckets or tanks. Piyush Plus is a product of ENPHO introduced in 2010. Piyush Plus was massively distributed during emergency response activity after earthquake in April, 2015 for drinking water disinfection.

Why Piyush Plus?

Even though access to basic drinking water services is increasing in Nepal, yet its safety still remains as a matter of concern. In Nepal, water used in majority of the households have shown the presence of E. Coli in them. Many of them still do not treat their water before drinking which creates threat for the occurrence of various water borne diseases, such as diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid etc. Moreover, natural disasters such as landslides, floods, earthquake which occur frequently in Nepal every year adds up the existing threat of water borne diseases due to lack of access to safe water during the disaster. Piyush has been developed as an easy option for treatment of water both during normal situation and during natural disaster, particularly to be used at household level.

User’s Instructions:

  • Measure the required amount of Piyush Plus in the cap that is provided.
  • For 10 liters of water, use 2 ml of Piyush Plus.
  • Stir well and drink after 30 minutes.

The product was introduced and branded in 2010 by ENPHO after continuous research. It was developed to prevent Cholera outbreak in eastern Nepal where the refugees were residing back then.
